Statistics

The Department came in to being in 1994 together with five (5) others as the first set of Departments to be constituted since the establishment of the Polytechnic in 1993. The Department received its first set of National Diploma I (ND I) Statistics Students in 1995. In the year 2001 the Higher National Diploma in Statistics was mounted and the first set of Students for the Programme was admitted. The Department had continued to train students in the two Programmes over the years and many of its diplomats are gainfully employed in both the private and public sectors.

Recent Achievements

The Department had achieved a lot in terms of training middle level manpower with many students completing their studies every year and most of them graduating with lower credit and above. In the area of Staff development, over 50% of the Academic Staff in the Department have obtained Masters Degree in their areas of specialization. Also a good number of Lecturers have either completed their PhD or are pursuing it presently.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

(i) NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND) IN STATISTICS

UTME subject combinations include: English and Mathematics and any two of Economics/Commerce, History/Government, IRK/CRK, Economics/Commerce, Principles of Accounts, Physics, Biology. O?Level subject combinations: Five (5) credits including English and Mathematics, plus any three of Physics, Biology/Agric., Economics/commerce, History/Government, Data processing, IRK/CRK, Principle of Account.

(ii) HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) IN STATISTICS

In addition to National Diploma (ND) requirement, the applicant is required to have a minimum of lower credit in ND statistics.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

For both ND and HND, student or candidate is required to pass all courses registered and must have a minimum graduating grade point average (GGPA) of 2.00
